How to Create a Long Lasting Wellness Plan
The beginning of the year is always a special time. It’s when businesses and companies reflect on everything they’ve accomplished despite any setbacks or hardships that occurred. You’re also probably thinking about last year’s goals that you may have set that didn’t really happen. One common elusive goal is to get the office healthier. Here are 5 ways that you can set a wellness plan for 2017 that sticks.
These 5 considerations can also be simplified to being S.M.A.R.T. goals. S.M.A.R.T. goals can be applied to any aspect of a business but we’re going to look at what it means to you in terms of your future wellness plan
Specific
In order for you to have a wellness plan you have to have a specific goal you want to achieve. This can be as large as you want, like participating in a local 5k or hosting a health fair. Or as small as producing a wellness newsletter every month or making the snacks in the vending machine healthier. Whatever it is, it must be specific.
TIP: To understand what specific goals you want to reach, you may want to consider sending a survey to your employees. This can help you get a better understanding of the office’s needs and interests, along with availability to participate in the goals set.
Measurable
The goals should be measurable as well. The goals can include raising the percentage of those who are CPR trained in the office and decreasing the amount of sick days used for work. All should revolve around getting and keeping the office healthy and safe.
TIP: Since you just surveyed your employees, the numbers portion can be drawn straight from there! See what the actual numbers are and then set the numbers where you’d like them to be.
Attainable
Make the goal agreed upon. Talk with your HR representative and maybe key members of different departments. See what they think and get feedback from them. Whatever is decided must be attainable for all that participate.
Realistic
Get real about the goal. Not everyone is in good enough physical fitness to run a 5k. So, that may mean changing the goal to having everyone carve out an hour out of his or her schedules for walking or scheduling training sessions. You may want to form a support group to keep everyone focused on being able to run a 5k.
Time
When should this goal be achieved? Sometimes the date is already set for you, like the event date for the race. Other times you will have to decide when the goal should first be implemented and when it should be accomplished and measured for success.
Following these S.M.A.R.T. goal tips will help your place of business become more focused on what needs to be achieved.
